Edison's 1st Halloween Costume

(Daddy's homemade costume number two).

"Idiot Dad! What is this supposed to be?"

"Really Dad?  I'm not feelin it."

"Wait, I like the spandexy material..."

"What just happened?  I'm...I'm...I'm an octopus?"

"A sad octopus..."

"A proud octopus..."

"A curious octopus..."

"Tired of being an octopus."

Despite Edison's recent mutation, Marcia can still
easily spot the difference between foot and tentacle.

Mommy knows tentacle-maneuvering.

"Are you guys just going to leave me here?
It's not like I can swim anywhere."

"I wonder what's going to happen next?"

"What's going to happen?"

"Oh yeah, feeding time!"

"You do this all for me?"

"Oh you parents make me so happy!"

6 Month Stats

Yesterday was Edison's 6 month well-child check. Although it involved 4 shots, he was still his pleasant little self for most of the visit. Stats from the big 6 month old:

Weight: 21.1 lbs  (finally back on the charts at 95th %ile)
Length: 27.5 in  (down a notch to the 75-90th %ile)
Head circumference: 18in (90-95th %ile)

So, still a big guy! Now to work on expanding his tastes and actually crawling.

Pictures of his Halloween costume to come...as soon as it's done :)

Lots of Eating and Smiling

"Oouah, can't I hold on to one primitive instinct?"

"Mmmmm, foooooood."

"Mmmmmm, more fooooood."

"Mmmmmmm, fooooood on my face."

Isis is apparently running out of places to sleep.

Edison enjoys cold cans (even if they aren't open).

Mommy seemed to have had a difficult time eating her pureed peas this evening.

Nap time for everyone.

"I can play in a sink all day!"

Lots of Firsts

Finally a new blog post! We've had a few weeks of viruses - and now Edison has his first cough - but we're all recovering (slowly) and trying to get back to things like blog updates.

It seems like Edison is changing so much every day now! Since the last update, his first two teeth have come in and they are super sharp. I know this because he likes to chomp on our fingers - although I live in fear of the time he decides to chomp down while nursing. He is also working on crawling and seems to be getting pretty close. He can definitely move from point A to point B, but it's kind of an uncoordinated, inchworm type motion. I expect we'll have a video within the next couple of weeks of real crawling though.

He also really likes to pull himself up. One day he was really motivated and pulled himself up to standing in his crib, but we have yet to replicate that moment of strength. He does like to pull himself up using our hands though - so who knows - walking may not be too far away either :)

This week we also decided to let him try foods other than milk. I'm pretty excited about this new step, I think just because I like eating and it's fun watching him taste things. The first food we tried was banana. I haven't actually given him spoonfuls of anything pureed, I'm just letting him taste the foods since he isn't too into swallowing it yet. The banana experience was basically just really messy because it was more fun to squish than to actually eat. The second food was my apple I let him try yesterday. He definitely seemed more enthused about that flavor (maybe because I ate hundreds of apples during my pregnancy). We actually bought some rice and a couple of baby foods to try yesterday - we'll be sure to take pictures of the actual tasting event. And THEN we'll get to use our baby-food cook book! I can't wait.

In other recent events, we had a near diaper emergency a couple of weeks ago when the washing machine stopped working. Of course it decided to stop while in the middle of a diaper wash, leaving me to hand-wash them. It's now fixed, and I'm more knowledgable about all the new kinds of washers available out there. I never thought I would covet a washing machine...

Today Edison is going to make his first trip to a humane society. Last night we found two puppies on our walk and we're going to take them to GAIN (the local shelter) to see what they can do with them. Edison may end up being a foster parent for a little while...we'll see. I'm pretty sure Zeke isn't up to the task though. And then coming up is Halloween! Damon is already hard at work on the costume - hopefully the final product is as great as we think :)

Don't forget to watch the new video at the end!
