February Moments and Puerto Rico

Well, it's mid-March, and I'm pleased to report that I have seen grass in our yard for the first time in at least 3 months. It may not be pretty, but it's there. I was actually really glad to get away for a few days to Puerto Rico, mostly just to remember that there is color in the world. And I realized that Adlai has never seen green grass, or green plants, or really any color outside except white. In his lifetime. Literally.

So let's see, what do we have to report? Adlai had his 4 month well child appointment, where he was > 99th %ile for length (that would explain why he wears 9 month clothes), and 80th% for weight (that would explain why he always seemed hungry). He decided to roll over for the first time at his appointment, I guess he really likes Dr. Mancini! He is now rolling, sitting up, and babbling. He loves watching Edison, and loves trying to put all of Edison's toys in his mouth. And I love finding all of the tiny Lego and Playmobil pieces in the carpet. I can't wait for Adlai to crawl. Yikes!

We took our trip to PR where Edison went from the baby pool to snorkeling over the course of 4 days. I can't wait for the summer, although we need to get a pool membership somewhere! Edison has remained interested in construction equipment and firetrucks, but has expanded his horizons to dinosaurs and outer space. He is not fond of Adlai taking his toys, but this bodes well for Zeke who seems to have moved up in Edison's social order of late.

We've had plenty of amusing quotes as well.

Edison Bye! Bye!
Daddy: Where are you going?
Edison: Outer space
Daddy: OK, have a good trip.
Edison: I think I’m going to take a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

While on a trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo, we walk outside from the gorilla exhibit, and noticing diesel exhaust in the air, Edison excitedly says, "It smells like construction!"

Edison: "EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!"
Me: Edison! Please stop. Why are you making that sound?
E: I'm like Adlai.
Me: You're trying to sound like Adlai screaming?
E: Yes. Now you'll pick me up.

E: When Adlai's bigger, he can play with me.
Me: Yeah, that will be fun, won't it? You'll get to explore the woods, and play outdoors, and...
E: And fight.

E: Where did this baby come from?
Me: You mean Adlai?
E: Yes, where did Adlai come from?
Me: Well, he came from inside my belly.
E: No - I mean, HOW did he GET there?
Me: Ummm, well, that's a good question for your father.

E: Mom, where's your phone?
Me: In the bedroom. Why?
E: I need to call the Easter Bunny.
Me: Hm, why are you calling the Easter Bunny?
E: To tell him he needs to bring me lots of presents for my birthday.

Dr. Mancini: Do you know what you want for your birthday yet?
E: I want a fire bulldozer, a fire crane, and a firetruck with stabilizers.

Me: Edison, please let Adlai touch your toys. You're going to need to learn how to share.
E: No! Adlai can't touch my toys! They're not his!
Me: Edison, you need to share, why can't you share with him?
E: Because Adlai is going to take my toys and throw them in the trash can!

Me: (coughing)
E: Mom! cough into your elbow!
Me: Oh - you're right! I'm sorry Edison.
E: You need to cough into your elbow, or else you'll give us all your virus.

More than a quarter of Edison conversations revolve around poop.  We have no idea why, but we're hoping this is very normal for most parents with toddlers.  Here's a recent Edison quote regarding the subject:

"I pushed real hard and it shot out my butt...like a rocket ship...Bshhhh."

Some people, when they have to go, say: "I'm going to go poop" or "I have to take a crap" or "take a dump" or "go number two" or "drop a deuce."  Edison came up with "I got to snake one out."

Alright, now on to the photos!

Zeke assesses Daddy's shoveling of a new driveway for the propane truck.

Adlai sporting his hand knitted sweater.

It fits!

Isis finds the warmest spot in the house (about 38.6 degrees warmer than anywhere else).

Mmmm, a homemade snow cone.

Edison going out to harvest snow-cone ingredients for export.

Edison builds an above ground sewer-system and immediately runs into problems:
"The doody is not coming out!" (he really said this)

Adlai finds his big toe before he finds his thumb.

Adlai loses his chew toy...where did it go?

Grandpa Lonn desperately trying to catch a glimpse of Adlai.

Dr. Seuss feet in the house.

Edison's dinosaur with dinosaur stickers (tattoos) all over it.

No, this is not Edison!  This is Adlai who,
after his four-month check-up, is considered to be underweight given his height.

Edison ready to blast off into a burning building.

Off to Puerto Rico

Walking to the plane.

Making it on the plane.

"Hey, that wasn't so bad."

Edison heads out to see Adlai's dunking.

Mommy's birthday wish comes true.

Edison meets some frienemies.  A splashing war occurs, guess who wins?

Edison likes long walks on the beach, what a romantic.

Another pool buddy has had enough of Edison's splashing.

A happy Pamma holds a happy Adlai.

Mommy finally gets 5 minutes to herself...oh wait, that was only 4 minutes.

The newest cast member to Bay Watch taking his role very seriously.

"Sweeeeeet!  A rescue motorcycle!"

Adlai has become too popular, it's time to go incognito.

What the....?

Oh, it's just...hahahahahaha!

Edison discovers the wonders of what a mask can do underwater.

He thanks his many fans for their encouragement...

Delivers a wonderful speech about perseverance and trying new things...

Then basks in the glory of praise during a rupture of applause.

No teddy bears for this guy, Adlai falls asleep cuddling his foot.

"I'm gonna getcha!"

"I can use this leaf as an umbrella."

By day four, Edison is a full blown snorkeler!

Edison snorkels in the "deep" water, sometimes up to 20 feet away from mommy!

OK! Now that you have caught up with February, don't miss the January update we posted at the same time! (And don't worry, it's much, much shorter than this one, just another 10 photos or so).

The Wolf Brother's January Update

Daddy: (holding a bag of Sourpatch Kids) You can have 2.
Edison: I want that many (holding up some fingers)
Daddy: 3?
Edison: Yeah
Daddy: What flavors?
Edison: Blue, Red, Green Yellow and Blue
Daddy: That’s 5
Edison: I want 5.

Daddy: Please come here so I can put on your pants, we have to go.
Edison: No.
Daddy: If you come over here, you can have a cookie.
Edison: First give me a cookie.
Daddy: No, first you come put on your pants.
Edison: No.
Daddy: First pants.
Edison: First cookie.
Daddy: Pants, then cookie.
Edison: (ignores Daddy and continues to play)
Daddy: Edison, let's go!
Edison: (Continues to ignore Daddy until Daddy chases him down)

Edison ready to give his brother a surprise bounce.

Adlai's passport photo.

The construction worker snowman visits our house.

"Where are the marshmallows?  There's a fire, why don't we have marshmallows?"

Edison finds another fire in the house to put out.

One day I was doing laundry and left Adlai in his (empty) crib. I could hear Adlai crying from down the hall when suddenly the crying stopped. A minute later, Edison is standing next to me.
Me: Edison, why did Adlai stop crying?
E: I pacified him.
Expecting a bad scene, I went jogging down the hall to see what Edison meant by that. Only to find the above.

Adlai and Daddy brave the cold for a few moments to embrace a rare winter sunset.

Edison's first (and last) day of school.

"Call me RADlai."

"Yep, this is my fire extinguisher; it's kinda heavy."

The best offense during the winter is a good defense.

"Nothin, just chillin."

Taking a snooze.

Taking a look at the camera lens.

Edison holding on for dear life.

Edison goes off the beaten path (because it's covered in snow).

An Edisonicle.

A nice brotherly thaw after a deep freeze.
