So I think it's only been a month since the last blog update - we're getting better! I've been trying to write down occurrences over the last month so I don't forget as much, although I know things will be left out. But let's see, it's getting warmer, which means a lot more outdoors time, fountain time, beach time, etc. Adlai has consumed at least his weight in sand and dirt by now. I'm hoping this is benefitting his immune system. He is also eating a lot of different foods - and loving it. With the exception of red peppers, which I'm pretty sure he's allergic to. We are working on signing with him - he has signs for more and water, although I think the water sign is interchangeable with food at this point. Either way, the signing is a big improvement over the 100 decibel shouting when you don't share quickly enough.
He is using a cup to drink water now. And Damon has successfully had him poop in the little potty several times. I have not been so successful....Adlai is fascinated by the big potty too, which is very distressing to Edison (see quote below).
We recently got a double stroller for jogging and biking. So far I have just used it for biking, and they love it. Adlai goes to sleep and Edison tells me where to go. Or eats a bunch of snacks.
We did have a little injury incident in June, the 20th to be exact. Edison was laying on the ground and I was pulling him up on the bed, and everything seemed normal and happy. Until Edison started screaming once he was up on the bed. Clearly something had happened to his arm, and in the back of my mind I was thinking, wow, this seems like a Nursemaid's elbow, but how could I have possibly dislocated my own child's elbow? So I attempted to distract him with games, but by the time he went to bed, it was clear something was quite wrong. So then came the time that I had to decide whether or not I could relocate his elbow. And that was a difficult decision. But, I did eventually do it, and Edison was immediately back to normal. Whew!
What else? Oh yes - we had father's day. Grandpa Lonn came to visit with Dylan. So we went to lunch where the Daddies had all you can eat ribs - and they ate their money's worth. Then we went to the Children's Museum and playground. A pleasant day to be sure.
And there have been some rather entertaining quotes....as usual.
Me: So, Edison, should we trade your brother in?
E: No!
Me: (somewhat surprised) No? How come?
E: Because I love Adlai.
I arrived home the other day as Edison was riding his scooter around the driveway. As I opened my door, he rode up to me:
E: Hi Mom.
Me: Hi Edison.
E: My name is Tit the Scooter Man.
Adlai's new name, by the way, is Firefighter Swim Diaper.
E: Mom, is Wilma a nice witch?
Me: Oh, Wilma from your book? Yes, she's a nice witch.
E: Is Ding Dong a nice witch?
Me: Who?
E: Ding Dong.
Me: Ding Dong? Who is Ding Dong?
E: Ding Dong. From the song. Ding Dong the wicked witch.
E: Mom, I need my helmet.
Me: Oh, ok, are you going to scooter?
E: No, I'm going to play "Shoot on the Donk".
Me: What?
E: Shoot on the Donk, it's a game I made up.
The next couple were hilariously random, and seemingly intended to incriminate Damon.
E: Mom, why does dad always give me Root Beer for breakfast?
E: Sometimes I ride in the car with dad, in the front. Without my seatbelt on.
E: Why does Grandpa Lonn leave stuff at our house?
E: (singing into the mirror one night) Every time I look in the mirror, I see a doody looking back at me.
E: Mom! Here comes your medicine. (he then turns and farts on me).
E: Look! There's a rose!
Me: No, that's not a rose, that's a geranium.
E: A geranium?
Me: Yep.
E: Look dad! A geranium! Can you say Ger-A-Nee-um?
Last night Edison was sitting on the toilet pooping.
E: Mom! Get Adlai! He's going to touch the poop!
Me: Ok, I'm coming.
Adlai: Suddenly screaming.
Me: Edison! What just happened?!
E: Nothing.
Me: I'm pretty sure you just did something. Did you hurt Adlai?
E: I stopped him from touching poop.
Me: How did you do that?
E: (silence)
10 minutes later.....
E: Can I apologize to Adlai?
Me: Yes, let me bring him over there.
E: Can I whisper it?
Me: Ok.
E: Ok. Sorry Adlai. For pushing you in the face.
Alright! Well that's all I've got for now! Hope you're enjoying the summer as much as we are!
A typical day in the backyard.
Bee check, got to go prepared.
Springtime with Adlai.
Does Edison see this?
He sees it.

Look, it's Elton John posing as a fighter fighting construction worker on the 4th of July!
Only a few people in the world can do this.
Adlai anticipating real food.

Surprisingly, Edison won.
Victory!

It's true, Adlai does have a nice tooshy.
Don't smother your mother!

Adlai is horrified that Edison has passed out at dinner once again.
Adlai's first time playing with the water at the Discovery Zone.
Adlai's first experiment, seeing if Edison's construction worker will float. It did, though there were too many variables for why it did, a typical mistake for a novice scientist. Was the material of the worker a factor? Or the density of the worker? Or was the urine keeping it up somehow?
"Quick, pose for Daddy, an Eastern Box Turtle is in our driveway."
Adlai's first time on the carousel.
Adlai is much more interested in cameras than Edison.
And finally, a quick get together with some family.
